Eliot Sorel was appointed Chair of the Access to Care Committee of the American Psychiatric Association

 

 

In April this year the “Psihiatru.ro” (Anul XIV • Nr. 52 (1) 2018 • DOI: 10.26416/Psih.52.1.2018, pp. 18-19) – a continuing medical education journal supported by the Romanian Association of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, the Romanian Alzheimer Society, and the Romanian Alliance for Suicide Prevention – published an Interview with Professor Eliot Sorel (“Total Health – innovative concept of personalized medicine”) by Editor-in-Chief of Psihiatru.ro, Professor Doina Cozman, MD, PhD (Doina Cozman is: Professor of Psychiatry and Mental Health, Medical Psychology Department, Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy; Consultant Psychiatrist, 3rd Psychiatry Clinic, Cluj County Emergency Hospital; President Elect, Romanian Association of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, www.antisuicid.com). This Interview revealed from the very beginning how the Total Health framework (a primary care, mental health and public health collaborative integrated model) was initiated by Professor Eliot Sorel in 2013 as a means of enhancing quality, access and sustainability of healthcare. This concept was presented at the WPA 2013 Bucharest Congress, elaborated it through the WPA Bucharest Statement on Collaborative and Integrated Care during the WPA 2015 Bucharest Congress, at the Romanian Parliament, in June 2015, and published by the World Federation of Mental Health in their Dignity in Mental Health publication of September 2015. On March 17, 2016 Professor Eliot Sorel was sworn-in by Mayor Muriel Bowser as a member of the District of Columbia Health Exchange Information Policy Board.
 
This year, on April 19, 2018 Professor Eliot Sorel, George Washington University (GWU) School of Medicine & School of Public Health, was the moderator of the Opening Session of the high-level meeting “Moving the needle: Mental health stories from around the world,” organized by the World Bank Group, with the support of World Health Organization, OneMind, and the Global Campaign for Mental Health, this remarkable recent event being hosted by the Embassy of Canada in Washington, D.C.
 
And on May 7, 2018 Eliot SOREL, MD, Senior Scholar in Healthcare Innovation and Policy Research, Clinical Professor of Global Health, Health Policy & Management, and of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the George Washington University, was appointed Chair of the Access to Care Committee of the American Psychiatric Association Assembly at the Association’s annual meeting in New York.
 
Professor Eliot Sorel is also the President of the 1st International Perinatal TOTAL Health Congress: The First Thousand Days of Life. Innovations and Transdisciplinary Collaborations” (https://www.perinatal2018international.org/ ), which will take place in Sinaia, Romania, in June 2018.
